Muddy River Hamlet
The Town of Brookline is a community of 6.6 square miles and almost 55,000 residents. Brookline has kept it town meeting form of government since 1705 when this "Muddy River" farmland of Boston became incorporated. Brookline was named for the brooks that formed its boundaries. Brookline has many varied resources, its own working farm and farm stand, the home where former President John F. Kennedy was born, and the oldest country club in the nation. Although primarily a residential community , Brookline has busy major retail centers which gives Brookline both a city atmosphere and a feeling of being in the country.
