East Bridgewater

The Town of East Bridgewater was settled in 1660. It incorporated as a town in 1823 . East Bridgewater is located approximately 25 miles southeast of Boston . The town has a long history of industrial development. The first triphammer to make scythes, axes, and other edged tools was established in town in 1740. By the late 19th and early 20th century, trolley lines in the community spurred residential development. The Bridgewater Branch Railroad from Whitman through East Bridgewater stimulated further industrial growth, including boot and shoe manufacturing.
